Foundations of Storytelling for Writers
$80.00
Description
$80 (Members: $72) | How to write a novel | 4 lessons | Self-paced
This class, written by a developmental editor, shows authors how to apply developmental editing principles to their own work. You’ll learn what concerns like “lack of a clear central conflict” and “poor character development” mean, how to find out if your novel has such story problems, and, if so, what to do to fix them.
The class is intended to help you identify and solve common big-picture problems in your own work, with assignments (and answer keys) that help you hone your editorial eye. In addition to character development and goal/motivation/conflict, you’ll learn about:
- point-of-view and perspective (they’re not the same thing)
- pacing and other plot problems
- world-building
- show versus tell
- And more!
Note that this class uses the same material as the Foundations of Storytelling class aimed at developmental editors.Â
The class is entirely online and asynchronous (you don’t have to be in any particular place at any particular time to participate).
