Description

$80 (Members: $72) | How to edit mainstream and upmarket fiction | 4 weeks | Self-paced | Intermediate

What is mainstream fiction? How is it different from genre fiction and literary fiction? And what is this thing called upmarket fiction? Where does that fit into the literary world?

In this class, we’ll explore those questions. We’ll investigate how to determine when a ms is mainstream or upmarket.  We’ll explore when and how to recommend your author redefine their mainstream novel as a genre novel and when they should slap the upmarket label on it.

We’ll figure out how to help an author move a genre novel into upmarket and a mainstream novel into a genre.

We’ll dive into the details of how editing upmarket fiction is different from editing genre fiction and of course we’ll dive into the nitty-gritty of exactly how to edit these types of novels: what to expect and what the conventions are.

Intermediate classes are intended for those with some developmental editing experience or who have taken the Beginning + Intermediate DE for Fiction classes or the self-paced DE 1 through 6 classes.

The class is entirely online and asynchronous (you don’t have to be in any particular place at any particular time to participate).
