$90.00

Description

$90 (Member price: $81) | How to edit narrative nonfiction | 4 lessons| Self-paced| Intermediate

In this class, you’ll read four published works of narrative nonfiction that take different approaches to storytelling. Written lessons describe what to consider when editing narrative nonfiction. You’ll write a total of four revision letters covering developmental problems you noted in the published works. Answer keys are provided so that you can see one editor’s approach to each assignment.

The course covers what we mean by narrative nonfiction and how it differs from other types of nonfiction, including memoir, history, and biography. It discusses how storytelling techniques borrowed from fiction are used to inform narrative nonfiction. It looks at how authors can find the information they need to fulfill the “nonfiction” aspect of narrative. And it digs into how we might effectively edit such manuscripts, helping the author see how to creative more effective works through the use of storytelling techniques.

The books required for the class are:

Packing for Mars by Mary Roach

In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson

Wolfish by Erica Berry

The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson

You’ll need to purchase each of the books used in the class.
